Is Germany out of the woods? No, it isn’t. In spite of a booming economy, Germany’s businesses fault politicians and complain about a growing shortage of skilled workers.

Dr. Lars Vollmer spells out what many of those participating in the Initiative for Business Based in Germany (launched by the trade journal Produktion) have criticized as well, if less directly: »Germany needs a more independent political system. This is the only way we stand even a chance of arriving at sustainable solutions that last longer than one legislative period. The current framework encourages political maneuvering rather than targeted efforts to come up with solutions. I am convinced that nothing will be accomplished for Germany this way, no matter how much tinkering we do here and there. In other words: True change is impossible in Germany.«
